Morzine

Located at the foot of the slopes, in the very heart of the ski area, the Portes du Soleil, Morzine is a charming village with an intoxicating mountain ambiance. Amble along the streets where you’ll find authentic-style chalets surrounding the church tower, friendly hotels owned by the local families, and restaurants where you can try some of the local delights – your holiday has only just started and there is so much to do in Morzine.

In winter, the main activity is, of course, skiing. Morzine is the gateway to a marvellous winter playground with 650 kilometres (400 miles) of marked runs where you will be able to practise all of your winter sports.

Morzine enables you to see mountain life through a different light during “La Semaine Blanche” (literally, the white week) for which a large range of activities and events are organized: snowshoe outings, basic lessons in skijoring (a combination of skiing and being pulled along by horses), Festiv’Alp – the mountain film festival where you can watch films for free, workshops about snow and avalanches, visits to the snow factory, presentations about the environment and waste recycling, etc. A bundle of pleasurable activities!

Throughout the season, Morzine organizes plenty of activities to keep you happily occupied during your holiday. Once a year, Morzine hosts one of the stages of The Grande Odyssée, probably the most difficult sled dog race in Europe: an infernal race for the worldwide teams of husky dogs, with 10 staging points that climb more than 25,000 metres (80,000 feet) in altitude. Based on an idea by the famous adventurer, Nicolas Vanier, and created by the entrepreneur Henry Kam, this event attracts the best mushers in Europe. For this grand occasion, Morzine organizes countless entertainment, such as tepee villages, eagle-taming demonstrations, Indic workshops, basic lessons in dogsledding, making maple syrup lollipops, etc.

In Morzine, you will also find the more “usual” activities: indoor ice-rink (where the Morzine ice hockey team, the French vice-champions of the France Elites – Ligue Magnus -2007 championship, do their training) outdoor ice-rink, snowshoeing, paragliding, snowmobiles, ice diving, hot-air ballooning, helicopters, paintball, etc.

‘Family +’ is an independent national label presented to tourist destinations that make concerted efforts to offer services for children. Morzine has this label so you will find many amenities and organized events for your little ones: shows, themed footpaths, treasure hunts, tours in horse-drawn carriages, summer tobogganing on a specifically-reserved slope at the foot of Pleney, L’Outa nursery for infants (upwards of 3 months old).
You can also pick up a free guide containing useful information and the programme of family activities called the “Guide des Kids” from the Morzine Tourist Information Office.

In summer, the 650 kilometres of slopes become signposted itineraries for trekking and MTB (mountain biking).
Discover the appeal of spending your summer holiday in the mountains where you will find the following activities: a swimming complex, tennis courts, adventure parks, horseriding, paragliding, paintball, mountainboard/grass scooters, golf and mini-golf, quad-bikes, fishing, hot-air ballooning, helicopters, etc.

We’re waiting for you this summer!

Whatever the season, take a discovery trip of the old quarters to find out how Morzine village has evolved over the centuries and learn about its traditional and agricultural activities: tour of the stable and the dairy, visit to a slate workshop, tour of the old town (the ‘Bourg’), etc.
